Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu talked with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas last night over the phone. In the conversation, Netanyahu thanked Abbas for sending Palestinian firefighters and fire trucks to Israel during this difficult time.
Last night (Saturday), firefighters were able to gain control over the majority of fires throughout the country. Many residents were allowed to return to their homes but some are still prohibited from doing so. Also last night, Netanyahu called Abbas and thanked him for sending Palestinian firefighters and fire trucks to assist the Israeli forces in extinguishing the nationwide blazes.
“In addition, Netanyahu appreciates the fact that Jews and Arabs opened their homes to those affected by the fires,” stated the Prime Minister’s Office. The Palestinian fire trucks returned to the Palestinian Authority after they helped extinguish the flames in several locations.
According to the Israel Police, the fire in Halamish was the result of an arson attack. In the settlement, Molotov cocktails with flammable material were discovered.
As reported earlier by JOL, 527 homes have been deemed uninhabitable so far and 1,600 residents are still prohibited from returning to their houses.
