Iran has built a third underground ballistic missile production factory, the semi-official Iranian Fars news agency reported on Thursday.
”Iran’s third underground factory has been built by the Guards in the recent years … We will continue to further develop our missile capabilities forcefully,” the head of the Republican Guard’s airspace division Amirali Hajizadeh was quoted as saying.
”It is natural that our enemies America and the Zionist regime (Israel) are angry with our missile program because they want Iran to be in a weak position,” Hajizadeh said.
US President Donald Trump slapped fresh sanctions against Tehran’s weapons procurement network following a ballistic missile test on January 29.
”Iran would do well to look at the calendar and realize there’s a new president in the Oval Office. And Iran would do well not to test the resolve of this new president,” Vice President Mike Pence said at the time.
On Wednesday, US Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin told the House Ways and Means Committee that he planned to increase pressure on Iran through the use of sanctions.
”We will use everything within our power to put additional sanctions on Iran, Syria and North Korea to protect American lives,” Mnuchin said during his testimony, the Reuters news agency reported. ”I can assure you that’s a big focus of mine and I discuss it with the president.”
Mnuchin told the hearing that sanctions ”really work” and were the reason that Iran entered the negotiations which led to the nuclear deal.
